We also need to cover the upcoming fall break. If you are around for any part of the break, PLEASE take picket shifts, including a 5:15-7am every day from Saturday through Tuesday. Unit members from all departments: we NEED you out on the picket lines at ALL TIMES. If you need a ride or can offer a ride to Clark over Fall Break, please reach out to CUGWU-Teamsters via email ClarkGradWorkersUnited@gmail.com.
Other highlights from the 4th day of the strike:
We are looking for ways to make the picket line more fun and more focused on the hope that we’re working towards! We’re thinking of dance parties, dress up days, sign-making parties, musical performances, bringing chalk and bubbles to talk to folks who are not already aligned with our cause… Please send us your suggestions or just sign up/show up with them! :)
You can also add strike songs to our collaborative playlist, here!
Supportive faculty from several different departments brought their students to the picket line and did a teach-in about the strike. Supportive faculty and undergraduates have kept us going this week!
Local politicians have been supporting CUGWU-Teamsters! We will be joined by City Councilor Etel Haxhiaj on the picket line tomorrow. Time to be decided. We have also reached out to Senators Markey and Warren who have expressed support and may also visit our picket line. Organizing committee members will also be meeting with Mayor Petty’s office tomorrow.
Today, members of CUGWU-Teamsters held a silent candlelight vigil in memory of Dr. Robert Deam Tobin.
Thank you for all the food donations! We are specifically asking for donations of healthier food options (fruits, vegetables, etc.) over the next few days to ensure the health of our unit throughout the strike.
Our incredible mutual aid team has been working hard to raise funds and prepare for fund distribution! Early next week we will start soliciting requests for financial mutual aid.
A note about Strike Signs: Graduate workers should wear the “Teamsters ON STRIKE Local 170” signs. All faculty, undergraduates, and community allies should wear the red strike signs (Or make and bring your own!!!). Remember not to wear Strike signs onto campus and to return them to the trailer when you are done with them.
How you can support our strike:
