Strike Day 2 (10/4)
URGENT: Tomorrow morning, we once again need as many people as possible to picket from 5am-10am. At 5:30am, Clark will attempt another concrete delivery that we need to shut down.
On the second day of our strike, workers and allies continued to show up to patrol our picket locations. Teamsters and undergraduate supporters kept the spirits high with coffee and food throughout the day. We also learn that President Fithian has 7 horses (too many horses).
Highlights from the 2nd day of the strike:
Strikers successfully turned away a concrete delivery at 5:30am and several more deliveries throughout the day.
Mail room has stopped sending out mail due to canceled pickups from UPS.
Power’s out in several buildings on campus; probably a coincidence, but a cool one.
Clark Admin sends out email for students experiencing “challenges” to reach out to the dean of students. Students should send their concerns about graduate worker conditions to Dean Kiem (KKiem@clarku.edu) and dos@clarku.edu
Payroll asked department heads to start sending out emails to determine who is striking and who is not. We ask people not to confirm their involvement with faculty or departments.
International students get an email from the ISSO Office to have them reach out about any concerns. Remember that international students have the same rights as domestic students regarding their rights to strike and visa status is connected to student status, not employment status.
Clark schedules a bargaining meeting for Wednesday morning!
Mutual aid fund continues to collect funds for graduate workers
The CUGWU Teamsters bargaining unit is extremely thankful to faculty who brought their students to the picket line as a part of class today!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Tomorrow morning, we once again need as many people as possible to picket from 5am-10am. At 5:30am, Clark will attempt another concrete delivery that we need to shut down. At 9am, the bargaining committee will meet for a negotiation meeting with Clark’s representation and we need to show the admin the vast support CUGWU has!
